Escape ECE @ UTD

Our Goal

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s (ECE) goal is to raise $5,000 to cover the cost of designing and building UTD’s first ever “escape room” experience to engage and strengthen its incoming freshmen class.

Why Support Our ECE Students?

Entering the University can be a somewhat scary and daunting experience for any student. Now imagine this experience for an ECE student who tends to be a bit shy as well. What if we bring together our incoming freshmen in a fun and collaborative fashion to help them build a network of friends they can rely on to navigate the challenges of a first year engineering student?! What if this experience also introduces them to an important concept of being a successful engineering student – team work!

The concept of “escape rooms” is a perfect solution for our shy freshmen. Plus, what engineering student doesn’t love puzzles?  As a team, and only as a team, can they successfully overcome the challenges posed to them since they are purposely designed to engage different personal strengths making each team member’s participation necessary. 

Engineered for Fun!

Of course, this experience will be engineered with a fun twist to ensure our ECE freshmen “escape” UTD four years from now. All questions will be related to conquering life in the Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science or life at UTD.  Perhaps they’ll have to figure out how to find free food on campus or learn where they apply for internships or where’s the best place at ECS to take a nap.

The Team

We are a dedicated team of individuals from the ECE department, the new ECE alumni chapter and the Jonsson School development team led by a passionate department head who sincerely care about the success of our students, especially our incoming freshmen. Many of us were in their shoes a year or two (or more) ago and know how beneficial this experience will be for their engineering experience at UTD.
