WE can transform our dreams into reality
UTD’s women-driven technology organizations - Society of Women Engineers, Women Who Compute, Women Mentoring Women in Engineering, and Women in Tech and Business - are excited to join forces and present our first gender-focused 24-hour hackathon called WEHack (Women Engineers Hack). Our goal is to create an inclusive environment that empowers women and non-binary students through technology. You can register for our virtual hackathon on October 10th-11th, 2020 as a hacker or mentor here!
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is an event that comprises of tech, food, swag, and workshops. Students can network with and learn from distinguished speakers, mentors, and peers. Students with similar interests come together to form well-rounded teams to create a product that addresses a broad challenge statement which is then finally presented to a panel of judges. While there is potential to win prizes and awards from companies, everyone can gain valuable experience just by participating.
Theme
In order to encompass both aspects of hardware and software, the theme of WEHack 2020 will revolve around robotics. We will provide hardware and software workshops so that students can learn and explore the basics of both in order to apply them to their projects.
Impact
Around 27% of Major League Hacking (MLH) hackathon participants are either women or non-binary. We hope to impact women students on campus so that they can build their skills and feel more confident to participate in future hackathons.
Our campus has several technology-focused organizations and hackathons but has never hosted an event of this scale that unites like-minded women. WE are here to make that change by creating a legacy on campus and providing a platform for participants to make a difference in the world!
