ABOUT US
Dallas Formula Racing is a student-led organization with over 90 active members across five different schools. Our mission is to positively reflect the reputation of UT Dallas, a top-tier university, through succeeding in the annual Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Competition and promoting STEM to the local DFW community.
Students on our team dedicate countless hours outside of class and work to drive their passion into action. Not only focusing on engineers, but Dallas Formula Racing also encompasses all aspects of the automotive industry, including research, design, marketing, management, finance, etc. Our team has successfully produced valuable candidates for various internships/jobs, including well-known brands such as Tesla, Toyota, McLaren and SpaceX.
TIRES
Being the only point of contact on the road, tires are the backbone of a great car. This is why it is paramount that our team ensures that our tires are in good condition. As the age of the tires increases, the chances of dry rotting in the tires increases along with it. Dry rot is undetectable from the outside of a tire, making it unpredictable. When dry rotting occurs, the possibility of an explosion during driving arises.
On average, racing tires typically stay in good condition for about one year. After almost five years of use, our current tires are extremely worn out and unsuitable for driving. Luckily, a fellow racing team has temporarily let us borrow tires until we receive funding for a replacement. The threads on the tires are visible, indicating that further use could potentially harm our team.
Due to the concern and safety of our drivers, we are campaigning for $3,500 in total for the whole revamp of our tire system. This would include the costs of suitable wheels, hubs and fresh tires.
