Transform the UTD SP/N Gallery into a mischievous artistic apparatus

Small Talk is a multimedia performance installation project by VPAS 6391 Creativity Visual Arts Workshop: Post-Studio Arts that will transform the UTD SP/N Gallery into a mischievous artistic apparatus that performs a series of creative chain reactions. Inspired by the mechanisms of a Rube Goldberg machine, an elaborate device and system that perpetuates motion, often in unintended, unexpected and non-sequential ways, the exhibition will morph in collaboration with UTD graduate students throughout the exhibition. As a dialectical space, the gallery will activate micro, local and small conversations, in which the artworks become portals for community-building and visitor interaction becomes a means for storytelling.

Our project highlights the creative research of UTD’s graduate students in an immersive art exhibition in the UTD SP/N Gallery.

Our fundraising goal is to raise $1,000 for an exhibition opening at the UTD SP/N Gallery from March 20 - April 26 with a closing reception on April 26. When we reach our goal we will create a full color exhibition catalog featuring the work of our talented graduate students for many whom this will be their first major public exhibition and publication.

The funds raised will be used to defray the cost of printing an exhibition catalog which will feature students’ artist statements, images of artworks and peer interviews.

Any additional funds raised will be utilized to purchase shared supplies for the exhibition as well as materials to install artworks.

The arts are collaborative and engaging fields. We want to provide the opportunities necessary for students to have an interdisciplinary range of experiences. UT Dallas is a tier-one research institution. Let’s provide tier-one resources to amplify the “A” in STEAM.

Small Talk will feature the artwork of Graduate Students / Artists: Vajihe Zamaniderkani, Maureen Okwulogu, Raquel Piantino, Tess Nguyen, Tina Vahed, Maulin Agrawal, Dárē Akinwole, John Olaoluwa, Hadi Asgharpour, Maryam, Takaloubighash, Shaghayegh Ashouri, Fatemeh Baigmoradi, Parul Bhatia, Anisha Chaudhary, Rachel Finkelstein, Célia Hay, Zahra Jafarpour, Paul Monaco, Brenda Vega
