Comet Science Olympiad is a new college alumni chapter of the National Science Olympiad competition at The University of Texas at Dallas. We are looking to spread the curiosity of STEM fields through the Science Olympiad competition, commonly called SciOly. We will do this by introducing SciOly to local schools and helping with tournaments throughout the state by serving as graders, test writers, proctors and event supervisors.
Our fundraising goal is $850 to cover travel costs for members of Comet Science Olympiad to help run the Texas State Science Olympiad tournament in College Station in April 2025. This will cover hotel rooms, gas and food for the two-day event. Without this fundraising effort, Comet SciOly may not be able to attend or assist.
Texas’s State Science Olympiad competition requires dedicated proctors, graders, test writers and event supervisors in order for students to have a positive, inspiring experience and Comet SciOly members are eager to play a role. We want to give the best experience to these students, who spent six months studying, practicing and preparing for the tournament. Also, seeing UTD students in leadership roles at the state tournament puts our University on the map for these top-performing STEM students who will soon be making college choices.
If we have an excess from this fundraiser, it will give us the ability to help with other competitions in the state and host events and clinics to grow the local Science Olympiad scene.
These middle and high school competitors, gathered from all over Texas, are future scientists, engineers and doctors. By giving them the spark to ignite their passions, fuel their interest and blaze their career path, this opportunity lets Comet SciOly members reach their own goal of spreading the curiosity of STEM fields.
