Help Support UTD Fencing compete at SWIFA tournaments

The UT Dallas fencing club aims to spread the sport of fencing to the UTD student body and provide opportunities for those that desire to branch out and compete. Our mission is to facilitate the competitive practice of fencing and to provide an atmosphere that allows members to learn and socialize with their peers.

Our club attempts to take part in tournaments hosted by the Southwest Intercollegiate Fencing Association (SWIFA) twice per semester as we believe this provides a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves and connect with other university communities. It is our goal to raise money in order to cover the costs of necessary equipment, team registration fees, transportation and hotels. As our club has less access to accommodations, it has become more expensive to travel and cover all the costs. Our club prides itself on being accessible and beginner friendly as we aim to provide all the equipment necessary for members to participate in club activities. Being able to provide more equipment to account for a diverse set of members will allow the club to provide a better learning experience and allow for more engagement in practices and these competitions.  

Our goal is to raise money for housing, transportation, registration fees and equipment. We would like to raise $3,500 which will completely cover the costs for both competitions in the spring and equipment. For housing it will cost $1,000 ($500 towards housing per competition). Transportation, gas and parking costs about $400 (about $200 per competition). To register for the competitions, it will cost $640 ($40 per team; on average our club sends eight teams for two competitions). The remaining $1,460 and any additional funding we receive will go towards equipment that the club provides, primarily blades, lamés and uniforms.

The UT Dallas fencing club has competed in tournaments hosted by SWIFA for the last two years. The University of Texas at Austin, UT San Antonio, Texas A&M, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, the University of North Texas, Texas State University and Oklahoma University are some of the other universities that are in attendance for these competitions. The UT Dallas fencing club ranked 4th overall during the 2022-23 competitions. Then during the 2023-24 competitions our club moved up to 3rd, now only behind The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M. Each year, our club continues to have more members interested in competing and we believe that it will bring a sense of pride to the UT Dallas community as we continue to move up in the ranks!
