Who We Are
We're the John Marshall Pre-Law Society (JMPLS) at the University of Texas at Dallas. We're a student-led organization passionate about pursuing careers in law, we strive to support each other as we navigate college and prepare for law school. Our mission is to support each other and provide valuable resources, guidance, and opportunities as we prepare for law school and our future legal professions.
What We Offer
Community and Networking
Through events, study groups, and social gatherings, our members build lasting relationships that benefit them both personally and professionally throughout their academic journey and beyond.
"Beyond the Bar" Speaker Series
Our speaker series brings in a diverse group of legal professionals who share their journeys, law school experiences, and insights into different fields of law. It’s a great opportunity for our members to learn firsthand from lawyers, judges, and other experts, and to get their questions answered directly.
Workshops
We offer workshops on everything from crafting the perfect resume and preparing for the LSAT to mock interviews and personal statement support. We give our members the tools they need to stand out and succeed in their law school applications.

Experience Campus Life
There’s nothing like seeing a campus firsthand. It helps us picture ourselves there, walking the halls, attending classes, and understanding if it feels like the right place to spend the next few years.
Learn About Programs
Each law school is unique, and visiting lets us see what makes each one special. We can learn more about their programs, culture, and strengths to figure out which is the best fit for us.
Make Connections
Meeting faculty, current students, and admissions officers face-to-face is invaluable. These connections help us understand the school’s community, what it takes to succeed there, and even build relationships that could help us down the line.
How Your Donation Helps
We’re aiming to raise $2,000 to cover the costs of these law school tours, and every dollar makes a real difference. Here's how we'll allocate the funds:
Transportation ($1,200)
Safe and reliable transportation is essential. Transportation is the largest expense, and your support will help us rent buses or vans so our students can visit these law schools comfortably and focus on making the most of their time there.
Accommodation ($400)
Covering lodging for overnight stays, especially for visits farther from UTD. It’s important that our students are well-rested to make the most out of these experiences.
Meals ($400)
Covering meals for our students will help them stay focused on the experience without worrying about additional expenses.
Our Goal and Beyond
We’re hoping to raise $2,000, but with additional support, we can do even more:
Visit More Schools
With additional funds, we’d love to expand our tours to more law schools like Texas Tech University School of Law and the University of Houston Law Center. More exposure means more opportunities for our students.
Make the Experience Even Better
Extra support could mean arranging guest speakers or setting up special networking opportunities with law professionals during our visits, giving our students even more value from this experience.
Ensure Smooth Planning
We can also allocate a part of our budget for a contingency fund, making sure that any unexpected expenses won’t derail our plans, and we can keep things running without a hitch.
