Support API Drive Innovation in the Prosthetics Field

The Accessible Prosthetics Initiative (API) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to making high-quality, affordable prosthetic devices accessible to everyone in need. Our mission is to drive innovation in the prosthetics field by designing, producing and delivering advanced solutions while fostering a supportive community focused on education, advocacy and outreach.

API operates at the intersection of technology, healthcare and social impact. Through our specialized production, education and communications teams, we leverage cutting-edge tools like CAD software, 3D printing and myoelectric technology to design prosthetics that empower amputees. We also educate the public about disability awareness and connect amputees with resources, healthcare professionals and supportive networks.

Why This Fundraiser Matters

We are aiming to raise $1,560 to fund the next phase of our work. These funds will support key projects and provide us with the materials needed to enhance the quality, durability and functionality of the prosthetic devices we create. Specifically, we plan to purchase vital components such as nanowires, muscle wires, 3D printers, batteries and microservers. With these resources, we will be able to build better prosthetics that can improve the daily lives of amputees.

Reaching our fundraising goal will allow us to develop custom prosthetics tailored to the individual needs of users, supporting the global e-NABLE initiative to expand access to affordable prosthetics. Additionally, the funds will help increase outreach efforts through schools, expos and community events, raising awareness about the challenges amputees face and the importance of accessible prosthetic solutions.

How the Funds Will Be Used

The funds raised will go directly toward the following key areas:

  • Prosthetic Development Materials: These include 3D printing filament, muscle wire, nanowires, transistors, rods, screws and other critical components that are essential for creating high-quality prosthetic devices.
  • Electronics and Power Systems: We will acquire batteries, buck converters, microservers and nano boards to power and enhance the functionality of our prosthetics.
  • Research and Innovation: Part of the funds will go toward exploring new materials like high-strength polymers and flexible biocompatible components to make our prosthetics even more advanced.
  • Outreach and Education: Funds will help us expand our outreach efforts by partnering with schools, rehabilitation centers and amputee support groups, spreading awareness about accessible prosthetics and educating the public.
  • Sustainability and Growth: Connecting with more students, partners and organizations will allow API to continue growing and make an even greater impact over time.

Stretch Goals & Future Plans

If we exceed our goal of $1,560, additional funds will enable us to invest in advanced prosthetic technology, such as neural interfaces and AI-driven customization, to improve the functionality and adaptability of our devices. Furthermore, we plan to organize hands-on workshops where volunteers and students can actively engage in prosthetic development and learn about the latest medical technologies. The extra funds would also help us expand our network of beneficiaries, ensuring that more individuals who need prosthetics can receive them free of charge, making a lasting impact on their lives.

The Impact of API

API is more than just a student initiative; we’re creating a movement to eliminate financial and technological barriers to prosthetic access. By fostering innovation and offering hands-on learning opportunities, we empower students to solve real-world biomedical challenges, all while delivering life-changing prosthetic devices to those in need. Our efforts extend far beyond UT Dallas, collaborating with local healthcare providers, global non-profits and initiatives like e-NABLE, which are working together to democratize access to prosthetics. Every dollar you contribute gets us closer to a world where no amputee is held back by cost.

Join Us in Making a Difference

Your support can help us change lives. Whether it's a small or large contribution, your donation will directly contribute to building a future where prosthetics are available to all, regardless of cost. Together, we can revolutionize the prosthetic field and give amputees the tools they need to live fuller, more independent lives.
