Help the Fencing Club compete at Nationals

The UT Dallas Fencing Club aims to spread the sport of fencing to the UT Dallas student body and provide opportunities for those that desire to branch out and compete. Our mission is to facilitate the competitive practice of fencing and to provide an atmosphere that allows members to learn and socialize with their peers.

Our club takes part in tournaments twice per semester as we believe this provides a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves and connect with other local university communities. This year we are expanding our reach by sending a team to nationals in Pennsylvania, and we are raising money to cover the costs of registration fees, hotels, rental cars and to help reduce flight costs. Our club prides itself on being accessible and beginner friendly as we aim to provide all the equipment necessary for members to participate in club activities and to reduce competition costs as much as possible.

Our goal is to raise money for registration fees, hotels, rental cars and to reduce flight costs for the nine-member team that we are sending to nationals. We would like to raise $3,500 to cover almost all the costs and make nationals more affordable for our members. This amount will completely cover the $600 registration fee, $400 in hotel costs and rental cars which will be about $400. The members who are going to nationals will be paying for their own flight, and it is estimated to be around $5,000 total ($550 per person). To bring that down, we will be using the remaining $2,100 to reduce the costs of flights so that the flights are much more affordable. If we meet our goal, the only expenses that competing members will have to pay will be a reduced flight cost and food.

The UT Dallas Fencing Club has competed in tournaments hosted by SWIFA for the last three years and the club ranked 4th overall during the 2022-23 competitions. During the 2023-24 competitions our club moved up to 3rd, now only behind The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M. The University of Texas at Austin, UT San Antonio, Texas A&M, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, the University of North Texas, Texas State University and Oklahoma University are some of the other universities that are in attendance for these competitions. These schools are fairly local, but by traveling for nationals, our club will be able to compete with many other schools and represent UT Dallas. Each year our club continues to have more members interested in competing, and we believe that it will bring a sense of pride to the UT Dallas community as we compete in higher tournaments and continue to move up the ranks!
