Help Care4Caregivers meet their goal!
Care4Caregivers is a UT Dallas organization that aims to support caregivers in the community by distributing self-care gift bags as a reminder for caregivers to take care of their mental health. Family caregiving is an incredibly taxing yet underrecognized responsibility. Throughout our community, there are many people who spend their day taking care of their children with special needs, elderly parents or chronically ill loved ones. Many people are informal caregivers, having to financially provide for themselves and their families while providing for their loved ones who are dependent on them. Full-time caregiving and providing for others often takes a toll on caregivers’ own mental and physical wellbeing. In constantly providing care for others, caregivers might not opt to spend their money and time obtaining self-care items to treat themselves. This is a formula for burnout. Care4Caregivers aims to take care of the people who spend all their free time taking care of others. We want to support this overlooked community by providing caregivers with the tools to treat themselves as well as educate the greater community on their experiences.
For this project, Care4Caregivers is working with a respite program called Incredible Fridays hosted at the First McKinney Baptist Church to distribute these self-care gift bags to the caregiving families participating in the program. Our fundraising goal for this project is $1,000. There are around 50 families that participate in each Incredible Friday session. Each gift bag costs approximately $20 and contains a face mask, candle, hand cream, scalp massager, mindfulness journal and a handwritten note of appreciation. We will distribute the gift bags on Dec. 12, 2025, and they will be given to the caregiving families when they come to pick-up their children at the end of the evening. After this project has taken effect, caregivers will be supported with not only a night of respite, but also simple ways to incorporate self-care at home as simple as lighting a candle, journaling or enjoying a 10-minute face mask.
