University Emergency Medical Response (UEMR) is an initiative focused on providing quality, campus-based emergency medical care to the UT Dallas Main Campus. We are a volunteer-only First Responder Organization, funded through membership dues, with support from the University through platforms like this! A number of other Tier 1 universities have already taken advantage of campus-based emergency medical services (EMS), and UT Dallas is the first university in the UT System to have an on-campus, student-run, First Responder Organization licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services responding to EMS calls on campus. We work directly with the leadership of City of Richardson (COR) Police and Fire Departments, as well as Chief Zacharias of the UTD Police Department (UTD PD) in order to improve the accessibility of care and shorten emergency response time. Our EMTs provide first aid stations and standby emergency medical response at special events by request through the UTD PD online event registration form. For 911 co-dispatch, UEMR is dispatched through the UTD PD Dispatch center, via radio and the UTD ALERT System, to treat on scene until Richardson Fire Department arrives for transport. We currently have 23 members on call during different shifts throughout the week and are growing at a remarkable rate!
A nonspecific contribution that ensures UEMR's high standard of care is upheld.
First Aid Supplies. These supplies are frequently used at university and athletic events to treat minor injuries.
Supplies used to immobilize patients with potential neck or back injuries.
Equipment and supplies needed to control life-threatening hemorrhage.
Respiratory emergency supplies are our most common recurring expense. Supplies used in the management of respiratory emergencies include Bag Valve Masks, Non-Rebreather Masks, and Nasal Cannulas.
Equipment and supplies necessary for the expansion and development of UEMRs training division. UEMR's training division offers American Heart Association courses: Heartsaver CPR/AED, Basic Life support, and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED, as well as The White House Bleeding Control campaign course 'Stop The Bleed", and several UEMR specific courses.
Personal protection equipment and infection control supplies. These supplies are used to protect UEMR providers from body fluids and to appropriately dispose or decontaminate equipment.
Wear and tear damage to our golf cart and medical equipment are common, especially during our 911 calls. Maintaining our medical equipment is our highest priority and ensures the highest possible standard of care. Fund UEMR's equipment maintenance and service plans for (1) year.
Provide (1) year of Continuing Education for all of UEMR's providers via the UT Southwestern/Biotel EMS Education Program.
All the necessary equipment that our EMTs need to properly manage an airway emergency. Airway management is our most valuable service that we provide. Ensuring a patent airway is in place as well as proper ventilation is our priority on scene.
Minimum equipment necessary for the management and treatment of cardiac arrest. In Cardiac Arrest emergencies, seconds save lives. Our EMTs are trained in the proper use of AEDs in order to effectively manage cardiac arrest emergencies.
