WOW! We surpassed our initial goal of $4,500 and are so thankful for every person that has contributed to #Comets2Cambridge. We have decided to continue fundraising until December 1 because there are more students who need help covering the cost to participate in this amazing opportunity. Our class stretch goal is to help fund travel for one more student bringing the new goal amount to $6,000.
#Comets2Cambridge is a class project with the goal of sending three students to present their research at the 2016 Cambridge Business & Economics Conference held at the University of Cambridge in England. Students who have their work selected will present to some of the brightest scholars and faculty members from universities around the world. This prestigious honor will have a lasting impact for each student.
Several undergraduates from the Jindal School have been invited to present their research at Cambridge under the guidance of Dr. Shawn Carraher. This year, a record number of 18 Jindal School students have had their papers accepted, and we anticipate that number to increase in 2016. There are costs involved with sending students overseas for this amazing opportunity, which is why we created the #Comets2Cambridge crowdfunding project.
Of the 18 selected students, only five were able to attend the 2015 conference because of a lack of funding. Research grants are available, but they usually have a maximum award of $500. It costs an estimated $1,500 for one student to attend the conference, so most students are unable to overcome the financial burden. With your help, we can fully fund the costs for three students in our class to attend the 2016 conference.
We are a group of 35 students from Dr. Carraher’s undergraduate strategic management class at the Naveen Jindal School of Management. As a class, we launched this project to support our peers and friends who will be selected to attend the 2016 Cambridge Business & Economics Conference. Students in our class are working on their research papers to submit for acceptance next year. Through this project we want to help them reach their full potential and experience the international academic stage. They have put in a significant amount of work in their research, and we believe they deserve the opportunity to show what their innovation can create.
